Welcome to My blog,
In this post gives you simple and clear explanation of discrete mathematics.
What is Discrete Mathematics?
Let us understand the meaning of the word 'Discrete'
Discrete means Countable, Separate , distinct values not Continuous values.
For Example:
Let us know about the Discrete Mathematics and Continuous Mathematics
Discrete Mathematics
No of Computers=20.
No of students= 30.
Integers like -3,-2,-1,0,1,2,3.
Whole Numbers like 0,1,2,3.
Continuous Mathematics
Temperature:35.6°C,30.16°C
Weight:55.5 kg,70.5 kg
Decimal numbers:1.001,5.89,9.006
In simple way ,Let me show you the difference between Discrete Mathematics and Continuous Mathematics.
Discrete Mathematics
- Seperate, countable , distinct values
- It has gap between the values like 5,6,7 etc
- Discrete may be finite or infinite values
- For example: Finite:No of computers=20
- Infinite:Integers like -3,-2,-1,0,1,2,3
- It is countable values
Continuous Mathematics
- It is continuous values, decimal values
- It has no gaps between the values like 5,5.1,5.2,6
- Continuous Values are always infinite values
- For example: decimal values:5.78,9.80
- It is not Countable values
Definition
Discrete Mathematics is the study of Mathematical structures that are countable, finite, distinct not continuous values.
Why Discrete Mathematics is important?
- It is backbone of computer science and Logical Thinking
- It is used in Programming, Algorithm, Database,Data structures etc
- It explain how computer thinks and process data.
Conclusion:
Discrete Mathematics is one of the easiest subject compared to other units in the ugc net computer science syllabus.Once you understand this discrete mathematics subject, you can easily understand and solved the programming concepts. It helps in logical thinking and program solving skills
