What is UGC NET Exam?

• UGC -NET-University  Grants Commission - National Eligibility Test.
• It’s an Indian national-level exam.
• Purpose: To determine eligibility for Assistant Professor jobs and Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in Indian universities and colleges.

Why UGC NET  Exam is important?

• To become Assistant Professor in Indian colleges/ Universities.
• To get JRF stipend for research.
• Helpful for PHD admission.

Who conducts UGC-NET Exam?

NTA(National Testing Agency)

Who can apply?

Educational Qualification for UGC NET

 1. Master’s Degree Holders (Most Common)

You can apply if you have completed or are studying a Master’s degree like:

M.Sc,MCA,M.A etc.

Any equivalent degree from a recognized university.

Minimum Marks Required:

General / EWS: 55%

OBC (NCL) / SC / ST / PwD / Third Gender: 50%

👉 Final-year students can apply, but must complete the degree within 2 years of NET result.

2. 4-Year Bachelor’s Degree (New Rule – NEP 2020)

If you have a 4-year UG degree (like):

B.E / B.Tech

4-year B.Sc / B.A / B.Com(Honours with research)

Minimum Marks:

General: 75%

Reserved categories: 70%

 Important:

You are eligible ONLY for JRF + PhD

Not eligible for Assistant Professor with UG alone.

UGC NET Age Limit

1.For JRF (Junior Research Fellowship):

Maximum age: 30 years

Age relaxation:

SC / ST / OBC / PwD / Women: 5 years extra

👉 So, you can apply up to 35 years.

2. For Assistant Professor / PhD:

No age limit

👉 You can apply at any age.

UGC NET Exam pattern

Paper 1-General Paper Common for all(Teaching and Research Aptitude)

Paper 2-Your subject paper(computer science, English like etc)

Paper 1 → 50 questions → 100 marks

Paper 2 → 100 questions → 200 marks

Time:3 hours 

Total Marks-300

No Negative Marks
